I've come across this add from Reolink about a "Wireless security camera" and next to it a picture of a camera with what appears to be a BIG FAT WIRE plugged into the camera. Is that just me being thick is it actually misleading?

Some suppliers WiFi cameras 'wireless' for some reason, but I completely agree that is quite confusing!
and.... WiFi cameras tend to be pretty ...crap... pardon my french :)
I had a couple of HiLook Wifi cameras some time ago and they were actually not that bad. My personal view is that it's more about the specific type you have!
@MIke C Which hilook did you have (just out of interest)?

I used to have a baby camera (by Motorola) which was Wi-Fi camera. It worked very well, I even tried to leave it several times as a security camera when I was away. But I had to recharge it quite often and several times I had bad wi-fi connection which resulted in no image :( That's the real problem, if you go for wi-fi security camera... No connection - no security 😵
I suppose that's fair enough for a baby cam... I am by no means in expert in this, but don't they transmit data with pretty much no encryption or protection against interception or jamming? it kinda defeats the purpose if an intrude can hack into your camera to help him identify when you are not around, doesn't it?
